Domspatzen German Boys Choir Visits Grand Canyon 2014

One of Tempe’s nine sister cities is Regensburg, Germany, at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers in Bavaria. And one of the prides of Regensburg—along with having Tempe, Ariz., for a sister city—is the Regensburger Domspatzen, the boys choir of Regensburg Cathedral. The boys of the Domspatzen could perhaps be considered nephews of Tempe, and in April their American relatives got to babysit them for a few eventful days—and let them sing for their keep. One of the oldest and most respected boys choirs in Europe, the Domspatzen (“Cathedral sparrows”) traces its lineage back to 975 A.D.

The annual SCI Conference held in San Antonio this year was especially meaningful for the group of seven from Tempe that attended. President Dick Neuheisel accepted this award on behalf of the entire organization; volunteers, board members and delegates who have participated in the program for the last 42 years. TSC President’s Message for 2012

Happy New Year to all Tempe Sister City Members. ….I was disappointed to learn over the holidays that the auto company, Saab, headquartered in Trollhattan, Sweden filed for bankruptcy protection.  A proposed sale to Chinese investors failed to materialize.  Tempe has been discussing a sister city affiliation with Trollhattan since the fall of 2009.  The economic problems faced by Saab have been a major concern for the leaders of that southwest Sweden city of some 50,000 population.  Ten percent are employed by Saab so Trollhattan is facing economic woes and an international outreach to Tempe may be delayed.
